Sometimes we have to fire a shot across the bow, just to keep up with the activity of our competitors, but we don’t have to match every step. Create a plan, be willing to adjust as necessary, but be willing to stick to it as well.
Shifting focus to continually chase additional shiny objects or follow opportunities that are passing fads is NOT the right model for most businesses.
In the past week I’ve been confronted with several folks making decisions based on what competitors have done recently. It is important to keep an eye on the competition, but remember what your mom said…and if they jump off a bridge, don’t follow them.
